Se gana, se empata o se pierde:
Identidad y memoria de la liga barrial San Sebastian
The Liga Barrial San Sebastián was born long before its official foundation in 1959. The large number of families living in the sectors of San Sebastián, La Loma, La Ronda and La Tola in the historic centre of Quito led to the rapid emergence of
football teams and neighbourhood organisation. Over the years, people have built a community around the football field.
The 38 teams (active to date) are made up of a wide range of faces and stories. There are those who have never played football but have dedicated their lives to administration and management. Others have played since they were children and, after retirement, have become team managers or sponsors of new generations.
Playing football at the weekend is a passion not only for the players, but also for their families, friends, neighbours and the whole network that has supported the league for more than three generations.
The field is a place where hundreds of people can escape from the tensions of everyday life, a place where they can write their own history and, above all, the materialisation of more than 60 years of work, created by the whole community, inherited and maintained as a living symbol of its
traditions, identity and passion for the sport. In football, as in life, you win, draw
or lose, but the important thing is not to stop playing.
The exhibition shows the process of the collaborative work with the San Sebastián neighbourhood league and its interpretation through contemporary art.
