The old sundial motto "I count only the sunny hours" inspired the title of this project. It reflects my ongoing process of observing the sky during sunny periods in an attempt to rebuild my relationship with the sun after moving to London in the northern hemisphere. Through fictional speculation and creating a scientific-emotional map, I intend to devise sensitive strategies for reconnecting with the sun, and more broadly with a climate and set of seasons that are unfamiliar to me now.

In November 2023, while watching the sunset in Greenwich, I witnessed a strange atmospheric phenomenon. At the time, I didn't know if the phenomenon was actually present or if something had influenced the camera while capturing it.  In the following months, I went out into the sun, trying to find the phenomenon again. I Count Only the Sunny Hours is a visual essay documenting these attempts and my learning from the changing seasons, atmosphere and weather, and it explores the idea of the revolution of the sun as a political stance that challenges the hegemony of a linear, dominant conception of time in favour  of other, cyclical, seasonal and multiple conceptions of time.
